Sew This Simple Knit Pencil Skirt in less than 30min

Materials,

Knit Fabric ( I used less than a yard), Scissors, Sewing machine, Measuring Tape, 1″ wide elastic  tape, sewing chalk and pins.

Step 1

Measure round your waist also measure how long you want the skirt to be starting from your waist down to the length you want, then write down the numbers.

Step 2

skrt1

Putting right side together fold the fabric with the selvage edge together ( selvage edge is the self finished edge of a fabric. It keeps the fabric from fraying or unraveling ) Lay it flat on a table

Step 3

Divide your waist measurement by 2.  Example (33 divide into 2 = 16.5)

Using the  divided measurement ( according to my measurement I’m using 16.5″) measure adjacent from the selvage edge right from the fold and mark with a chalk.

Hint: I folded the fabric half way so I could use only the little I needed, saving the rest for some other project.

Step 4

skrt5

Using the skirt length measurement ( how long you want the skirt to be ), measure horizontally to the selvage edge.

Step 5

Pin together and sew the length i.e ( the long side) with right side of the fabric together .

skrt6

When sewing make sure you use the zigzag option on your machine, If you  use the straight stitch it with keep snapping and cutting the thread.

skrt7

Step 6

Open up the stitch and iron it.

skrt8

Step 7

Bring out the elastic cut the length needed using your waist measurement. Cut out 1 and 1/2 ”  from it. The will allow for a little stretch of the elastic.

skrt10

Stitch the elastic together putting the raw edges on each other using the zigzag stitch.

skrt11

Step 8

skrt12

Place the elastic on the right rise of the skirt. Stretch and pin the elastic and the fabric together. Sew the elastic on the fabric using the zigzag stitch.

Make sure you sew near the edge of the elastic. Sew it all around.

Step 9

skrt13

Turn the elastic to the wrong side and iron it. Pin it down all around.

Tack it down at 1 or 2 inch apart so the elastic can stay in place just like below.

skrt14

Step 10

Sew the bottom of the fabric, fold it on 1/2 ” and use the zig zag stitch to sew it all around.

skrt16

Here is the final skirt.
