DIY Skirt and Jacket – Review S1283

It’s 12/28/14, the last Sunday of the year. I’m so happy and grateful to see this day. I’m looking forward to the next year and what the year will bring with it.

2014 was a very challenging year for me and at the same time, I was able to achieve a lot. I have a lot in mind for the next year and I pray that I’m able to achieve some of it without procrastinating.

The outfit I’m wearing today is a Simplicity 1283 with a self-drafted skirt. I reviewed the jacket down below. I love this skirt a lot and you’ll definitely be seeing it on me a lot this summer:). It fits perfectly and the fabric I still don’t know what it is called. It’s a blend of cotton/polyester/silk. I picked it up from a remnant box at SR Harris Fabric Outlet, it was less than a yard and this is the best I could bring out of it. FYI – I also lined it.

Pattern Review:

Pattern Description: Simplicity 1283 Unlined Jacket View D

Fabric Used: Wool/Cotton Blend

Pattern Size: Size 14.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it ? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were very easy to follow but I used the Tutorial Video on youtube Here

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern ? The pattern is very simple with no difficulty at all. I like the length of the jacket and you can style it up or down.  I don’t like the fact that the pattern came smaller than usual. I’m a size 10 but I cut out size 14, using the finished measurement as a guide.

Pattern alterations or any design you made ? The interfacing I used was a bit thick so it made the collar a little bulky. FYI use a very thin interfacing if you will be using a heavier weight fabric. I tack down the collars to the front bodice to avoid shifting. I also tack down the front yoke.

Would you sew it again ? Yes I will sew it again trying out different fabrics.

Would you recommend it to others?  Yes I recommend it.
