DIY Simple Off Shoulder Dress Tutorial

offshoulder

Weeks ago I wrote about an off shoulder dress I will be making. I finally got to it. :). Below are the requirements.

Materials:

Scissors, Knit fabric, Tape measure, Thread, Chalk, Pins and Sewing machine a vest.

Step 1

Make sure you’re using a Knit/ Jersey fabric or any stretchy fabric. Lay the fabric flat on the table with the raw edges (grain) together.

 Step 2

Get a Vest that fits right on you and measure out where you want the off shoulder to start from then mark it at both arms.

Step 3

Lay the vest on your fabric and trace down starting from where you marked on the vest.

Step 4

I tried using the chalk but because of the color of the fabric. it wasn’t really showing so I had to use a pencil for the line so it could show in the photo.

Step 5

Measure down from the end of the vest to whatever length you want the dress to be and add 1″ for the hem. For mine, I used 15″.

Mark a long line and trace a line from the vest to the new length. Make sure you take 1/2″ off from each side of the hem.

Step 6

Cut it out with 1/2″ seam allowance.

Step 7

Pin together the sides and sew the 2 sides. If you have a serger or interlock you can use it to finish the edges.

Always make sure you press open seams after sewing.

Step 8 – Sleeve

Measure your arm from the front armhole to the back armhole. This will be the length of the sleeve.

I used 4″ width by 9″ length then sew one edge of it using a 1/2 inch seam allowance.

Step 9

Attach the Sleeve to the Dress Arm with the raw edge starting at the neck and the hemmed seam ending at the armhole.
