DIY Kimono Knit/Cotton Dress

TGIF , We ‘re finally enjoying summer here in Minneapolis. We’ve been in the 80s for the past few days Yaaay.

My sewing challenge is still on. This dress is so simple and very easy to sew. The simplicity is what made me use it as a prototype in one of the sewing classes I took last fall. The class was about cost and pricing. We realized in the class that a lot of emerging designers/seamstresses either overprice or underprice themselves.  It was a very interesting class and I really enjoyed it. The instructor made the class so fun and easy for us.

With the little sewing that I’m doing, I’ve started getting customers and I needed to know how and what to charge. I don’t want to overcharge my customers to chase them away neither do I want to undercharge by cheating myself.

Phew, there is a lot to learn.

So what do you think of the dress? The top part is a knit a little thick with less elastic. I’m still familiarizing myself with knits, there are quit a variety of knits out there which makes it difficult for me sometimes. I used a cotton fabric for the bottom part and also added side pockets.

That’s my little story on that dress. 🙂  Here is a similar sleeve I made with a top.
