DIY Ankara/Fleece Vest + Review M2260

Happy Thursday All,

I was at Hancock Fabrics last week picking up some zippers and I came across this pattern. It’s a Mccalls 2260 unlined vest. When I first picked it up, the first thing I saw was that it could be put together within an hour.  So out of curiosity with my 4 eyes looking around and rolling like a disco light watching to see that there are no store associates around, I quickly opened up the pattern for a quick glance at the instructions and right there I knew I could put it together within an hour according to the pattern’s cover.

Though my vest took me over an hour because I added additional fabric (fleece) as the lining and pocket for a little warmth. FYI the pattern doesn’t come with lining.

I will surely be making more in a variety of sizes and prints. I do recommend this pattern for beginners. If you can sew a straight line you can put this together. Trust me with this pattern you’re in good hands in Dennis Haysbert All-State voice. 🙂

Pattern Review:

Pattern Description:   Mccalls 2260 View B

Fabric Used:  I used African print Cotton/Wax blend and Fleece

Pattern Size:  Medium

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?  I think so

Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were very easy to follow.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?  The pattern is very simple and according to the pattern could be made within an hour.

Pattern alterations or any design you made?  I lined the cotton fabric using fleece, I also used the fleece as the pocket. I turned the back neck, front bodice and the sleeve facing inside out using the fleece. The fleece fabric gave it a bulky look which is what I was going for. I didn’t use the belt in the pattern.

Would you sew it again? Yes, I will sew it again in different varieties trying out different fabrics.

Would you recommend it to others? This is a very easy pattern. If you can sew a straight line, you can easily put this together.

NOTE: I cut 1 piece each of fabric and fleece and serge them together using it as a piece.
